Building the best vows

Are you a serious couple? Or do you like to live life a little more light heartedly?

Your vows should represent who are you as a couple! Don’t get bogged down with what you heard at a wedding 2 months ago, or what you ‘think’ your guests want to hear in your vows.
Speak from the heart & the rest will come naturally, and if it doesn’t… I am always here to help!

inspiration to write your vows

  • Groom: I promise to put the top on the toothpaste, my dirty washing in the laundry basket and not to clean my football boots on the kitchen table. Oh, and to love you always.

Bride: I promise to learn to cook something other than baked beans on toast, not to hog the bathroom and use all the hot water, and never to ask ‘Does my bum look big in this’ and expect an honest answer.

  • Groom: I vow to understand you when I don’t; to admit that I am in the wrong when I mistakenly think I am in the right; and to bring you flowers at least once a week as I am bound to have done something that I should apologise for.

Bride: I promise not to phone my mum more than seven times a week, to buy only one pair of shoes a month and to accept all your bad habits as being what makes you as loveable as you are.

  • Write each other love letters before the ceremony and just do legal vows throughout the ceremony

  • These are vows that you write for each other to say, rather than yourself.

Bride writing grooms vows: I promise to remember our anniversary dates, to always put my clothes in the wash basket when they are dirty and to always make you a cup of tea at night. I vow to always make you happy, to never make you sad and to only make you cry tears of laughter.

Groom writing brides’ vows: I promise when I say I will only take 10 minutes to get ready, I will actually only take 10 minutes. I promise to not give you more than 3 renovation to do’s over a 6 month period, and I promise to always make you that special hot pot you really like.

I vow to always accept you for who you are, to never try and change you (even though I hate when you pick your nose) and love you today and all of our tomorrows.

  • This can be as relaxed or as traditional as you want to make it

Sarah: Do you both vow to treat each other as individuals and equals, never try to change the other; and give all that you’ve got to give to make each other’s dreams come true? Do you promise to be open, honest, and patient with each other, to trust each other and be worthy of that trust? Do you promise to keep updating these as vows as you go - because one set of vows can’t cover a lifetime of growing and changing or falling more and more in love with each other every day.

    always with honesty and faith.”

“Time is always on my side when I am with you.”

“I vow to be as much of a rock for you as you have been for me.”

  • "I believe in you, the person you will grow to be and the couple we will be together. With my whole heart, I take you as my wife/husband, acknowledging and accepting your faults and strengths, as you do mine. I promise to be faithful and supportive and to always make our family's love and happiness my priority. I will be yours in plenty and in want, in sickness and in health, in failure and in triumph. I will dream with you, celebrate with you, and walk beside you through whatever our lives may bring. You are my person—my love and my life, today and always."

“I love your sense of adventure and the way you always brighten my day. I vow to join with you in this journey as your wife/husband with an open heart and to make even the smallest of our accomplishments—eating breakfast or changing a light bulb—into an exciting part of our lives together.”

“They say love is like magic and I couldn’t agree more. When I first met you, you seemed to appear out of nowhere. My focus was kept on you, consistently trying to solve the puzzle of who you were and where you were from. As our love grew, I couldn’t wait to see you again and be entertained by the chemistry we shared. Now as we wed, I look forward to unlocking the mysteries of the world with you by my side. After all, every good magician relies on their assistant.”

“A rainbow occurs naturally when the Earth is in perfect harmony. A precise combination and balance between sunshine and rain that creates a prism of colors perfectly painted in a half-circle across the sky for all to enjoy. Finding a rainbow is not easy. I like to think of our love as a rainbow that brightens both of our lives and has a lasting impression on those who witness it.”

"I promise to be your lover, companion, and friend, Your partner in parenthood, Your ally in conflict, Your greatest fan and your toughest adversary, Your comrade in adventure, Your student and your teacher, Your consolation in disappointment, Your accomplice in mischief. This is my sacred vow to you, my equal in all things. All things."

“I believe you have been the best guide for me through this journey called life. You have shown me what it means to love. You have directed me down paths I did not know existed. Through our adventures, we have discovered beautiful waterfalls and fields of wildflowers. We have fought rapids and turbulent waters and came out the other side victorious and stronger than before. I look forward to holding your hand through all the adventures to come.”
